The Act enables the Secretary of State to appoint a games authority. This does not require legislation per se. All the SoS has to do is to name his preferred authority and put the name on the order paper. We then wait for 40 days. If no one objects then it’s done.
Mike – agreed, and I was using layman's language when I spoke with the Guardian! I imagine the timeframe is dependant on the election and any discussions regarding the notice, hence the potential for there being a wait before this is capped off.
